Castle Évoramonte
Description
Situated in one of the highest places in the Serra da Ossa, Castle Évoramonte is also known only by Torre Évoramonte, due to its iconic architectural complex intra-walls. This set consists of a fortified palace with four towers nearly touching, defining a quadrangular perimeter of the fortress. From the top of these towers are able to reach generous views, allowing to observe large areas of plain land to nearby Castle Estremoz.
Conquered by Geraldo on Fearless 1160, this is when it is built the first fortification walls and surrounding. It was the fall of the Keep original, By action of the earthquake 1531, than D. Manuel had built the tower following Italian influences, giving you the iconic current format with four turrets and quadrangular structure. Refurbished for the first time between the years 1920 and 1940, was again subject to a work of renovation in the late 1980.
Famous and important in the history of Portugal because it was here that the Convention was signed Évoramonte, which put an end to liberal wars, Castle Évoramonte was signed by Ana Maria Magalhães and Isabel Appeals in the collection of books “An Adventure”.
