ACORNS the fruits of oaks are
an important nutrient for many forest animals - mammals (wild boar, European acorn moth, forest dormouse) and birds (jay, capercaillie, hawfinch).
In the past, after drying, grinding and appropriate preparation, it was used as a coffee substitute. Roasted acorns were also sometimes used to make vodka, and during periods of crop failure, they were ground and added to flour
