October is primarily the month of discoloration and then falling of the leaves of most species of trees and shrubs. The process of color change begins to progress most rapidly with the arrival of September, to reach its apogee in October. The chlorophyll previously contained in the leaves begins to disintegrate, which causes the trees to produce anthocyanins. These dyes cause the color of the leaves to systematically change.
