"Orchard cultivation is a form of extensive fruit cultivation in which predominantly strong-growing, high-stemmed and large-crowned fruit trees are planted at wide intervals. Characteristic of orchards is the regular underuse as permanent grassland. In addition, there are orchards with agricultural or horticultural underuse, orchard avenues and other linear plantings. Orchards are often composed of fruit trees of different species and varieties, age and size classes, they should cover a minimum area size of 0.15 ha. In contrast to modern dense plantings with closed, uniform plantings, the individual tree is always recognizable in orchards."
